Hi

welcome to Rootschat  Smiley

Robert Dickson, coal miner,  died in Stirling (Royal Infirmary - usual residence The Haugh, Bannockburn) on 8th March 1924, aged 50.  Wife was Jeanie Riddell. His son, J Dickson, was the informant. Parents - Thomas Dickson, farm servant, dec. and Jane m.s McConnel, deceased

This fits with the 1901 census info.

Regards

Hi hume - I got up very early so I'm up to speed   Grin

Son, J. Dickson's address is Bovington Camp(?), <somewhere>, Dorset.

Would he have been in the army?

I gather you're having probs finding Jeanie's birth registration.

The marriage cert has her listed as Riddell and parents Thomas Wilson, sea captain, dec., and Sarah Jane McCracken. There is no maiden surname for Sarah Jane so it is very likely that Jeanie was illegitimate. Have you looked for a birth reg circa 1875 under McCracken or Wilson?

On the 1901, there is a Maggie McCracken, visitor, aged 11,  living with Robert and Jeanie. She might be a sister or other relative of Jeanie's. Both are down as b. Blantyre, Lanarkshire.

yes, we thought maybe jeanie was her mother from a previous marriage hence riddell but just a guess i understand from my father that blantyre is also a mining town and this is where they are living prior to bannockburn, on there wedding cert i think it said kirkton east kilbride my father was sent to military scool in dunblane and was estranged from his father due to ww2 so knows very little
