Sudbury Hall fellows across the lake, what/who could they be???
« on: Monday 08 June 09 12:49 UTC (UK) »

Here is a photo taken in the 1860's from across the lake at Sudbury Hall. Can anyone suggest what type of employment these characters outfits portray!! Any knowledge or recognition as to who they may be???
regards Karen

Hi, kazzann, why don't you try e-mailing the picture to the National Trust at the hall and asking.    sudburyhall@nationaltrust.org.uk

Hi

They look like a couple of likey lads having a day on the lake but more likey are estate workers putting in an interest point! for the photo like the old oil painting use to have and as for their jobs they could anything but most prob-Gardeners.

In my opinion the marriage residence is not always the place of birth. Never forget Workhouse and overseers accounts records of birth.

Thankyou for your responses, I sent the picture to National Trust, they said the photo is in the Sudbury album, dated 1860's as "Äcross the lake" and they don't know who the Characters are. Any suggestions as to what type of hats they may be wearing?Huh??
My GT GT Grandfather was a gardener at Sudbury Hall in the 1860's, so as you could imagine, I would love to discover whether one of the men in this photo could be him (he would have been in his late 20's, I think these men look too old, would you agree??!!!
I am attaching a photo that was sent to me (from Sudbury), with Lord George John Warren Vernon the 5th (Older man 2nd from the back on right) It was also supposed to be taken in the 1860's.
Maybe this is the same fellow on the left in the lake photo, what do you folk think?Huh??
