Can someone please see if they can find anything on Peter Gaughan, born County Mayo May 1845 (according to US Census records)?

Thank you

Civil registration of births in Ireland started in 1864 so there will be no birth certificate. To find a baptism record (if it exists) you need to know the family's religion and where they lived (parish if not actual townland).

I know they were Roman Catholic and I believe that I found his marriage record in Belmullet Parish.  This is also where his children were born.

If he was Catholic and married in Ireland after 1864 (which should hopefully be the case going by his age) the marriage certificate will list his residence at the time of the marriage and should also list his father's name and occupation.
Depending on how far back the church records go you might be able to find other family members there.
