Excellent site but sadly only one of my many questions has been solved.  Sad

It may take time to solve our questions but the reading and the information is invaluable.  Dorliz

I would agree Smiley Plus is you don't get messages from people who have nothing to do with your family unless they are prepared to help: unlike Genes
The only regret I have is I have not been able to verify my Irish relatives;  all the others have come up trumps.

Keep at it Nigel, breakthroughs are usually sudden when they come. One of the names I was researching when I joined had less than five instances, now over 150 related plus another 50 posibles and probables.

Nigel,
I'd agree with Redroger - breakthroughs seldom come immediately, often come suddenly, and usually come unexpectedly.

Case in point: I'd been vainly trying to track down a wedding in Tipperary for months. I Googled some of the information I had (as I'd done many, many times before - one of my mantras is "check, double-check, triple-check..."). After looking through several pages of results, I eventually found one I didn't recognise that looked interesting. It turned out to be a 6 year old post on another genealogy website's message board. Obviously I joined up, posted a reply, and waited (with little hope, assuming that whoever it was had given up).
I was delighted to get a message a few months later - it turned out to be a cousin of my mother's. We shared (and double-checked) each other's information. We now continue to research independently, often comparing notes.

Remember that your RootsChat postings will show up on Google/MSN searches, and people not on Rootschat may find them months/years down the line. So never give up!

Postings receiving replies after several years has happened to me more than once, several have been useful, some haven't, but keep trying sooner or later a clue will come.

I feel much joy and gratitude, not to mention relief, for such a wonderful site.  Not costing yet giving much.  It's been a great help to me.  It's like having an internet fairy godmother!
So, many thanks, Julie.

I've heard of people solving problems of relationships after over 20 years, before Rootschat started I think, so keep at it, only 9 more years to go. If you have a major problem why not ask Tephra for a Scavenger Hunt?

I've been trying to find a Birth Entry, (& a Census Listing prior to 1901) for my Grandfather for about 30yrs now. Despite having a 'Scavanger Hunt' on here for him...I am no further on Huh

However, I have had sterling help on here with finding other folk; which I have greatly appreciated!

I have a Scavenger hunt coming up in about 6 weeks time, just after Christmas, recent events on here strongly suggest that Blandford Forum likely comes into the picture, and virtually everything prior to 1731 was lost in the fire. But keep hoping.

I have found and confirmed my Irish connection. Muir's father and mother are Hugh and Mary, and I have found his siblings.  Now moving on to Janets' parents.  Haven't found her siblings as yet. Have to trace their county of origin.  William and Mary.  O'May and Milloy could not get more Irish than that, or maybe you could.

I found an unknown Gr Aunt. So now I have another 2 names added, possibly 3.
by the time I have added her children and their spouses ......who knows.

I have the Irish surname Walsh or Welsh in my father's tree, but it goes back to before 1700 in Lincolnshire. What chance to trace this back to Ireland?

Do you know Julian?
He has set a posting for anything Irish.  For anyone having problems to place it there and he may be able to help.

Do not know whether it is the same person, but apparently a vault to the irish records has been unlocked and all the little fisches are making their way to a digital database Hurray!!!  It could take 10yrs.

I had a school friend called Jane Walsh.  Lost contact with her years ago.  She had two/3 brothers. Lived in a house at the back of a pub.
