It seems to be a really good site. I have already found quite a few useful links and I'm sure it will lead to more information for me.

Hi there

This site seems to be excellent and very very user friendly and I love the ability to be able to attach images to the messages; great, keep up the good work.

The question "DO YOU THINK ROOTS CHAT WILL BE OF SOME HELP TO YOU" is very difficult to answer honestly as you only have three choices - Yes, No or Dont Know.

From past experience of Local & Family History I have found it more enjoyable to be able to help others in their quest for Ancestors, and get great satisfaction from solving difficult research enquires - so I therefore had to reply as 'No' or 'Dont Know' (I'll keep it secret as to which I chose), rather than being positive and saying Yes.

Think about it, is it better to give rather than receive?

Chris,

I must agree there is something really exciting trying to solve other people's genealogy or local history puzzles. In a way it's like being a crosword fan and you're asked to solve other people's crossword for them!

I like the grave images that you've put on your messages already. It's going to get really good when everybody starts putting on images!

Hi Admin

Didn't know you were lurking in the background.

I would have said that it was more like picking up a partly completed crossword that has been discarded as it could not be finished - all the clues are there, but some help is required.

Oh, and by the way, I have over 5000 grave images of memorials in Lewes, East Sussex.

[color=Maroon]I would like to think so - any chance of finding out new resources or familyconnections has to be a positive.

It's early days but this site has all the signs of being one of the best.  The moderators appear to be friendly and helpful which is a big plus, as is being a user friendly site.  Another big plus is that the site does not deposit a Tracking Cookie on your PC, so many sites do, Spybot tells me so !!  Grin .

It's now 18 July 2004 and time to update my comments above.

RootsChat has been a tremendous help to me, I've received and given more info than on any other board, the Fewell topic started by Julied on the Essex board is a prime example.  I am so impressed and happy with RootsChat that I have had no compunction at all about recommending it to quite a few people and I can recognise at least three of them on RootsChat.  So, many thanks to Administrators and Moderators, your hard work has paid off.

Just thought I would add my views on the subject, the answer from me is a resounding yes. I say that because after two years of searching for a branch of the SMYTH family, I found them via RootsChat and a fellow chatter.
I have also managed to help one other person in a very small way, that feels almost as good.

I really hope so.  I've been working on my Australian ancestors and am starting to move towards England, Ireland and Scotland.  I hope this forum will assist me and others that don't live in the UK.

I'd say 'definitely'.  I haven't actually found anyone yet, but I HAVE had some useful pointers.  And - as someone else has said - it is early days for the site/
