May I ask if you have any other Hogg photos from Wilton Churchyard?
My GGGGrandparents Robert Hogg d 1896 and Mary Mc Bain d 1933 are supposed to be buried there.
Thankyou

Andrew R.
....Thank you so much for sharing..Oh how I wish I could say one was mine.
Are your photos mainly of Hogg names or did you get carried away and click stones to your hearts content ?
One more question...did you concentrate on only certain cemeteries.
Again...Thanks for sharing.

A long time ago I was asked to look for some Hoggs and each time I go on one of my little trips I still notice the Hogg ones so its easy enough to photo them I have some more

Speaking of photos I'm expecting one through the door with a fine attached as I think I was going a little fast on my way to wilton cemetery today and passed a camera van but 'sel a vie' first ticket I've had for about twenty + years which isn't bad

Thankyou Andrew - what a lovely surprise in my inbox this morning !! A coachman - now have to find out where Grin
I think the Alexander at the bottom must be one of their twin sons ,haven't found him anywhere else, maybe died as a baby.
This is just awesome & something I will probably never get to see myself.
Many,many thanks

Wow... lots of Hoggs. Sadly none of mine even though I have them on two sides. But I think I will look into Peter as there is a lot of Peters in my tree.

Will report back if successful!

Its something about Hoggs... the gravestones do tend to stick out Grin

Thank you!

Hi,

I found this headstone in St Marys Churchyard in Hawick today and thought there might be a Hogg out there who may be interested.

Hi Andrew,

I haven't been to Wilton but I hope to visit soon along with the other cemeteries in Hawick.

I know that most of my ancestors died in Hawick but I only know where a few of them are buried so it could take me a while.  Do you know the best place to ask when you want to find out where someone is buried?

ritchie

Apparently the plots are called 'lairs' in the borders how wierd is that

If you know the details of who your looking for this has info:  http://www.scotborders.gov.uk/life/livingandsocialcare/death/graveyardsandburials/index.html  but there is normally a fee

But I would imagine one of the border family history groups have this info as well, or someone on here, the borders family history people may have all the inscriptions  and this could contain the plot nos

If your like me you like to see the images or the actual graves

It may sound odd but I see a name and my brain goes into overtime and tries to find an association ie James Bowie (on the hill to the right hand side of the road) immeadiately I thought of the Alamo, this is why I remember some names.  Insane, perhaps but hey I'm walking round graveyards!!

Hi Andrew,

I went to Wilton cemetery and Wellogate cemetery yesterday and found a few headstones of my ancestors and one or two I will have to check on.  I also went to Cavers cemetery, just outside Hawick and found a couple of Hogg headstones.  I have attached the photos.  They are not very clear, but one is a William Hogg married to Margaret Sprott and the other is Agnes Hogg married to James Davidson.
