Hi Oscar

Welcome to RootsChat  Smiley

There was one person researching the Elders with a possible link to David Elder, see this link here on RC: www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,215420.0.html

I'm sure you have checked IGI at www.familysearch.org. There is a number of submitted entries for the family including birth/deaths for the children of David and Janet.

Hi Monica,

Thanks for link. I will try and contact the thread owner to see if they are researching the same family. It’s a bit difficult for me to work out whether there is a connection or not as I’m not related to this family and I don’t have all the facts. I would send a PM to them but I haven’t made enough posts yet to send one so I will post to that thread.

Thanks again

Always worthwhile posting on the main thread first, someone in the future may recognise the family in the future  Smiley You have now done 3 posts on the main forum so you can use the PM facility as well.

Greetings

The family listed in the first post is that of my Gt-Gt-Grandfather.  I would be glad to share what we have with your enquirer

Hello,

In case you do not have it, this would appear to be his will (5 pages - most will be legal jargon),  - can be downloaded for £5 from www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk

Regards,  Steve :O)

Elder David 29/07/1862 fishery officer at Island of Westray, Orkney; then at Helmsdale, and lately resided at Raploch, spouse of Janet Robertson or Elder Inventory; Last Will and Testament Stirling Sheriff Court SC67/36/

Update:  To the message below - no I just happen to be a board 'lurker'  Good luck with your research.  :O)

Thank you for taking the trouble.  As it happens I already have a copy of this will which I handcopied from the original probate records.  The inventory includes a sizeable bank draft sent from New Zealand by my Gt-Grandfather and his brother - we assume that it was intended to assist with the parents' costs for their own planned emigration.

Do our research interests intersect in any way?  Mine are the Elder, Jamieson (Linlithgow area), Kerr and Robertsom families
