Hi
When I looked at the marriage for my Martin Lyon brasier of St Martins in The Fields to Elizabeth Hodgson on 7 May 1747 at St Luke Chelsea, I was surprised to find he was 'of Bury St Edmunds Suffolk'. He wasn't apprenticed to a London brasier, I have checked that and he does not appear, so he must have come to London for another reason.
There is a Martin Lyon son of William and Ann Lyon baptised Bury 17 Jun 1724 who would fit the bill - his siblings include a Thomas which is good as a Thomas Lyon brother in law appears in Elizabeth's will. This Martin was admitted to Bury Grammar school April 1735 - his father was William an innholder.
I haven't found a marriage for William and Ann.
I seem to have exhausted databases I have access to and remain unsure that I have the right man. Am wondering if a grammar school boy would become a brasier? Also are there any apprenticeship records available for Suffolk?
Another name in the will is Samuel Lyon - not a sibling but maybe a son of a sibling? I found a Samuel age 58 buried in Bury 1809 but have no idea who he might be.
I have found the following on the likely siblings of Martin
Thomas 1718 marries Ann Coe 1740 children in Bury buried Bury 27 Feb 1800, Ann 1721 married William Boggess 3 Nov 1741, James 1728 ?died 1750, Robert 1730, Charles 1732, Margaret 1734
Any thoughts or other info would be most welcome.
Thank you Jan

Hi Diddy
Just updating. As a result of the burial info you kindly sent me I was able to get hold of wills for Thomas Lyon, Samuel Lyon and Samuel's wife Susannah. The wills don't mention Elizabeth and Martin directly but there are enough names in common to establish that Martin must be the son of William and Ann. From the wills it is also clear that Samuel is the son of Thomas.
Thank you for your help
Jan
