I have to tell you that Mayo is a huge County when it comes to looking for Ancestors.  The 2 research centres are as below.  The North Centre is not in Ballina but out of town - you definitely need a car and plenty of money.  These centres now have their info on line.

To find out more about the centres, you can contact them at:

Mayo North Family Heritage Centre
Enniscoe
Castlehill
Ballina
Co Mayo
Ireland

Tel: + 353 (0) 96 31809
Fax: + 353 (0) 96 31885

South Mayo Family Research Centre
Main Street
Ballinrobe
Co Mayo
Ireland

Tel: + 353 (0) 94 954 1214
Fax: + 353 (0) 94 954 1214

Online details - its a pay site:

www.brsgenealogy.com -  you have to register and buy credits it's to view.  It's 5 Euro to view a record - very expensive.  But I was paying 10 euro to view records at Enniscoe House (that was 2 years ago, don't know if the price has dropped)

You could also try this site (I don't think it is as good as brs but sometimes it 'turns' up something unexpected).

www.mayoancestors.com

With reference to accommodation there are heaps and heaps of B&B's.  You could try the Ballina Tourist Board:

www.mayo.ie

We used B&B's.  They were absolutely superb as were the people.

As all these sites are online it will give you plenty of time to read up on it and make a choice.  As i said earlier, you definitely need a car for getting around.

I hope this helps.  We had a wonderful time.  It's a beautiful County.

Dee

Thank you so much for the wonderul reply... I now have around 5 members of the family who I have traced as being "from" Mayo, but most, there are several surname changes and its not being easy to find which is true  lol, but My Monaghan names are acurate... but, I dont know where... in Mayo, only there names... so perhaps I need to keep trying online first before a trip?

Thank you tho so much for the helpful advice Smiley
