The Bell Inn, High Street, Lakenheath
« on: Tuesday 24 February 09 01:29 UTC (UK) »

Does this place still exist, or if not, what is there now. My relatives were Innkeeper there from at least 1841 to 1901.
Thanks
Regards

Hi Jan  Wink

Just nosing around the Suffolk resources and noticed your message,  the following website holds fabulous info about Suffolk Pubs...perhaps there are gems in there about the Bell Inn.   Good Luck.

Hi Jan,

Why not email the Lakenheath Library and ask what info they have on the Inn?  They may have a Local Studies section.

Jan, Aren't we all! Grin

I don't have access to lookup databases to help people but often what I've learned to do to get around this  in my own hunting can be a suggestion.
Let us know how you go.

I also have a vague memory that someone has running a Pub keepers Index.  Might be worth g**gling for that?

Hi Jan
I can help you with your enquiry about the Bell Inn, I was brought up in Lakenheath, and still go there quite often to visit my mother. The Bell in recent years has changed its name, first to the Cromwell and then to the Vintage. sadly though it has now been delicenced and has just started convertion to residential site.
If you need any other information I'll be happy to try and get it for you.
Best regards

Hello Brian
Thank you!! I am interested in finding an old photo of when it was a pub - preferably Bell Inn, or the Cromwell or the Vintage if not the bell. I'd also like to get a 'today' photo. Is there a Library, local history place or something similar (I've googled but found nothing) that may have a photo - or is there a local newspaper who may have archives.
Lakenheath is one of my top 10 to visit in October - I am so looking forward to it.
Regards
Jan

Hello again Jan
I have dug out some photos for you 1. Pre 1915 as large tree in the centre was cut down that year, 2. 1950.
