Sidney William BRIDGES - Suffolk
« on: Saturday 12 September 09 22:21 UTC (UK) »

Wondering if someone can help find any info about Sidney William Bridges born  1822 in Kildare Ireland and the family moved to Suffolk.
Sidney married in 1904, in Stow, Suffolk, England  I have been informed.
I wonder if the word Stow is short for Stowmarket??
Any help would be much appreciated.

Annette

if he was born in 1822 and married in 1904 that would make him 82 when he married?

 Hi wozzle,
Thank you for picking that up, so I checked the date out and it should have been 1872.  Huh

Many thanks again.

Stow is the name of the Hundred and Union and also of the registration district in the Stowmarket area, covers lots of parishes/villages.

For more on the Stowmarket area   Grin

I have been checking on A****** and it would appear that Sidney William's father Thomas Bridges was born in St Pancras London - it is likely that the family could have originated in the Stowmarket area (another hot spot for Bridges folk).

Have now found that Thomas' father was born in Ware Hertfordshire

Whilst this may not be of any use to you, I have been checking through my extensive collection of Bridges records collected over the last 38+ years and found several entries from the St Pancras Workhouse Admissions

1870 – Sarah Bridges 24 years and Edward Bridges 3 months

Jun 25, 1870 Louisa Bridges aged 53 transferred to St Thomas’ Hospital at 1.30 pm

And in St Pancras Workhouse births:

Dec 5, 1877 –to Emily Bridges, illegitimate daughter—Laura

Dec 9, 1885 to Caroline Bridges a son, Horace Reuben.

(these are from Bridges researcher Jenny Smith in Australia).
