I've been on the trail of my gggrandfather, who has been difficult to trace because he was born in France (about 1815) and he married late in life after he had had his children! Anyway, after finding his marriage I now have a fathers name - Timothy Howard, a carpenter.

In the 1841 census there is a Timothy Howard, a joiner, born around 1791 living in Buckingham. This could tie in with the information I have from the Attestation of Robert Howard when he joined the Royal Marines in 1833 and swore in front of the magistrate in Eversholt, Bedfordshire and was medically examined in Woburn. So I think we are in the right area of the country.

Timothy in the 1841 census says he was born outside of Buckinghamshire and I have noticed that a lot of Howards seem to be living in Brackley, just over the border into Northamptonshire. Could this Timothy be the father of Robert? Could Robert have been born in France when Timothy was fighting in the Napoleonic Wars?

Does anyone have access to any parish or military records that could prove a connection?
