Hi Sandy (seahall),
I was born in Banbury but now live in Australia which makes looking at things like gravestones a bit difficult! I am descended from the Brooks family of Woodford Halse/ Hinton Hamlet and I wondered if you had seen any Brooks graves there. There were also marriages with the Mountford and Sears families, although the Sears were from Aston-le-Walls. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

The picture you have posted of your Great Grandfather Woods at his forge -- where was this taken, was it in Woodford or Hinton -- as I have connections to Richard Sewell the Blacksmith of Hinton !!

Hi Denise,
Sorry, the photo is of my great grandfather on my father's side. He was born in Norwich and then moved to the East end of London where his forge was located.
I see you have Mold of Middleton Cheney in your family interests. When I lived in the Banbury area early 1980's, I remember visiting a Miss Mold in MC - can't remember her first name but I'll ask my Mum - she was a friend of my maternal grandmother Edith Brooks who was born in MC. Miss Mold was in her 90's then.
Your photo of Horsefair is interesting without traffic! Do you know when it was taken?
Regards

Hi Barry

I am afraid that there was only one that was half readable.

There are so many stones wih inscriptions that have worn with age.

Hi Sandy,
Thanks for the photo. I can read the following:
In affectionate remembrance of Elizabeth Brooks daughter of Richard and ............
who died April.................
Can you read any more on the original?
The only Elizabeth (b. 1823 Woodford Halse) on my tree was the daughter of John Brooks and Hannah Gardner - so not her.
Am I right in assuming the Elizabeth on the gravestone wasn't married? Otherwise I think it would have said 'wife of........ and daughter of ........
What age were other graves in the same area or does it not follow, in your experience, that this grave would be of the same era?
Regards

Hi Barry

I will try and answer with the knowledge I have gleaned whilst searching
many Church and Cemeteries in Northamptonshire and elsewhere.

I have seen that sometimes even if the person is an adult it would
name her parents also on her gravestone.

Brilliant it you do not already know it.

Wives are not always buried with husbands or nearby depending on
how much difference between deaths they are often in other parts of
church/grave yards.

All the stones around this Churchyard are mixed dates

I have sent you a P.M.

HTH.
