Jemima Nicholas Fishguard
« on: Wednesday 07 January 09 10:05 UTC (UK) »

I am looking for any info on Jemima Nicholas circa 1750 of Fishguard Pembrokeshire Wales. I know that she was somewhat of a famous figure in 1797 in the failed invasion of England and Wales by the French. I have read that a man called Andrew Thomas believes that he has found her Baptism record in 2006, but have heard no more news about this. Does anyone know if this Andrew Thomas has made any more headway? Any info would be most appreciated.

Hi eamane

A little bit of info for you i have just found in a book regarding Jemima.

She was a heroine of the Invasion.
She is described as " a tall, stout, masculine woman " who worked as a Cobbler.

She marched from Llanwnda with a Pitchfork to Fishguard

She lived for 35 Years after the Invasion, and for her efforts was awarded a government pension of £50 per annum for life.

From a photo of her Headstone, she died in Main Street July 1832 ,aged 82 years.

At the date of the Invasion she was 47 .

What a lady !!!!!!!!!!

Hope this helps
