Oxford Look Up request
« on: Wednesday 25 February 09 20:00 UTC (UK) »

I wonder if anyone is able to look up a marriage and/or baptism for me for a Richard Sayer to a Mary ? around 1820C. In 1841 he was living in St Giles and later in St Ebbes. He was born in 1798 and was a carpenter but believe he had also been a college servant,

Many Thanks   Sue

Hi Sue ...

Checking the OFHS's Oxfordshire Marriage Index (1538-1837) the most recent record of a Richard SAYER marrying a Mary is in the mid 1700s.

However, the following entry may be worth some further investigation:

26 NOV 1820 - Richard SAWYER to Mary ALLSOP (of Wallingford) at Oxford St. Giles

Hi Pennie,

Thanks very much for looking that up for me. I think they are the right couple as my Mary came from Wallingford. I then checked the IGI for their son Thomas using the surname Sawyer and found him baptised in St Giles 1821. I had been looking under Sayer.

Thanks again,    Sue
