Hi
What name is it now?
I know there is a local authority travellers site at Littleton Lane in Shepperton (near Chertsey Bridge) which isn't that far away but not sure what is on the vast area of undeveloped land between there and Woburn Hill. It's a long time since I visited that part of Addlestone,

Hope this isn't too late to be of any use.
I think you are looking for Brackendene Caravan Site which was on part of the site of what is now a public open space, also known as Brackendene. I've been trying to piece together the history of this small area and information is very sparce! The caravan site towards Weybridge is a different site.
You've probably found by now that the Surrey History Centre doesn't have any relevant records, but it is worth contacting Chertsey Museum who do have some record cards for the site from the 1960s. I'm planning to have a look at these in the next couple of weeks, so please say if I can help with further info.

Hi
There was a Caravan Park on Woburn Hill Addlestone Moor in the 1970's. I don't recall it was a Travellers Site but a few possibly lived there.
Update: Spoken to a local of the area, 'Gerry Cottles Circus' used to be based there.
There was a Travellers site at the top of ' Free Prae Road' in Chertsey. Off Eastworth Road? Not sure if they are still there, not been that way in years.
Good luck Reyz.

i am totally new to this kind of thing, coming into computors later on i n life ,please bear with me.I noticed someone was enquiring about the caravan park at the foot of Woburn hill called Brackendene farm,I lived there in a caravan for quite few years in the 60s. It was a residential site and at that time ,a bit rough and ready to start with but improved as new management came in.I remember a person called Percy stamp used to run things at first, he was a good chap who would sometimes take some of us youngsters to maidstone and other places just for the company. He was a genuine good sort of bloke. The caravan park was not a Gypsy site,it was run as a business by someone we never knew,we paid our ground rent for our plot which we kept tidy or a letter was issued as a warning. What happened to the place after we left in the late sixtys ,I don,t know, but if anyone remembers those times on Woburn Park Farm as it was then,i would be interested, especially if they also went to stepgates secondary modern school at the time regards Kelty

You've reminded me that I found a couple more bits of information about Brackendene - Chertsey museum have a map from the 1960s showing the site and the "avenues" that the caravans were set out on. The rent book that they have is in the name of Ashfold or Ashfield.
Kelty, although I'm trying to piece together a bit of local history rather than family history, could I PM you with a couple of questions please?

hi there ,regarding Brackendene farm again ,i would like to know what the place was originally, there is a picture posted that shows the water gardens running through the middle of the park, all the stonework bridge supports are man made, when i was resident there, pathways ran either side with evidence that there were some nice gardens here onetime, however even in my time there, all this had deteriorated, the picture shows much greater decline ,just what was the place in its heyday?does any one know?
