John Lomas
« on: Monday 23 February 09 16:20 UTC (UK) »

Can anyone help me, please.
According to the 1851 census for Fulbrook, Oxfordshire, my ancester John Lomas was born in Culworth/Colworth, Northants, in about 1798.  His wife Elizabeth came from Hatford/Halford, Warwicks.  So they may have got married there around 1820?  However I am up against the proverbial brick wall.  He died in 1855 and I can find no other clues as to where he lived or what he did except that he had a son Edward, born about 1822 in Filkins, Oxon.
I know it's a long shot, but can anyone shed any light on him?

Hi Tonem

Welcome to Rootschat.  Smiley

They does not seem to be any links to him this side of the border.

Culworth is very near the Oxfordshire Border so maybe the
marriage was in that county. ?

As he is noted as a Constable on the census maybe there are
some records at the Oxfordshire Record Office about him.

There's no sign of John and Elizabeth on the Oxfordshire or Northamptonshire MIs.  Perhaps it would be worth having a check done of the Warwickshire MI at:

http://www.bmsgh.org/search/Wa_marr_index.html

I have the PRs for Filkins and Fulbrook.  Pre-1864 records for Filkins are included with Broadwell, so that is where you may find Edward's baptism (plus other possible LOMAS entries).

The only entry for LOMAS in the Fulbrook PRs is a marriage in 1874 for John LOMAS, s. Edward.  If you would like the full entry for this, please let me know.

Pennie,
Thanks for the info.  I've got Filkins PR myself.  However, Warwickshire MI may turn up something.   Again, thanks.
