Hi,
I read with interest the post re Gregory/Doolittle. I have been trying to trace any Gregorys for some time mainly James Gregory who would have been born about 1870 married to Kathleen/Katherine Vickers. Their son John James Gregory was born 1906 and baptised in St.Patricks, Wicklow Town. Any help would be really appreciated.

Hi,
Was John Gregory bc 1906, the 3rd child of James Gregory who marrid c 1899 Kate Vickers born 8th February 1870.
Their children were
1 Tom bc 1900 - 1966 married Mary Lacey.
2 Dora bc 1903
3 Johnny bc 1906 married Annie Byrne Wicklow
c 1901 b3 Blainroe Lr 61/16 Kate Gregory R.C. R & W 20 Married b Wicklow
c 1911 b5 Dunbur Lower 64/19 Kate Gregory age 32: married 11 yrs 3 children
born & 3 living

Yes, how great to talk to someone who knows something about James and Kate, I have been trying to find something for about four years now. My husband Chris is a son of Johnny and Annie Byrne.
I haven't been able to find anything on James and Kate so it's brilliant to get your information, thanks very much.
I have done a history on my family and made a sort of story out of it so anything you can tell me would be brilliant so I can do the same thing for Chris.
If I have any info you want please feel free to ask but it looks like you know quite a bit more than me.

Is this any use to you. If you can give me a little more information I may be able to help further.
On census of 1901 James states he was born in Wicklow, but on the 1911 census he states hewas born in Wexford.
c 1911 Colley Street, b14, 65/19. All Roman Catholic could read & write except children, & all born Wicklow
1 William Gregory head of household, age 39 yrs [bc 1872] labourer, married born Wicklow
2 Catherine Gregory, wife age 37 yrs [bc 1874] in Wicklow married 4 yrs [married c 1907]. 3 children born & 3 alive in 1911
3Thomas son, age 3 yrs [bc 1908]:
4 Robert son age 1 yr 9 months [bc July 1909]
5 Dorothy daughter age 1 month [bc Feb 1911]
6 Annie Byrne Mother-in-law, age 77 yrs [bc 1835] no occupation listed, widow, born Wicklow - Catherine's Mother.
My records start with children of 1st Mr. ? Gregory, & Dora ? born c 1851 in Co Wexford.
1 James bc 1878 in Co Wicklow ref. c 1901
and bc 1875 in Co Wexford ref. c 1911
2 Robert bcv 1877 Co Wexford
3 Edward bc 1878 Co Wicklow
4 Richard bc 1882 in Co Wicklow
James married Kate c 1899
1 Tom bc 1900 died 19th September 1966 in Ashtown Lane, buried in Rathnew Cemetery.
2 Dora born 1903
3 Johnny bc 1906 married Annie had had c 11 children.
Not in correct order. I knew Chris's sister Dora, was she born c 1939?
James, Mary, Doris, John, Kathleen, Annie, Edward, Richard, Irene, Christopher and Thomas

Great, thanks very much for the information. I had nothing at all prior to James Gregory and Katherine Vickers.
On Johnnie Gregory I have his father as James b.1875 Co.Wickow married to Mary Doyle b.1878 and James father as Paul Byrne b.1836 Co.Wicklow. I don't know if Paul was born in Wicklow Town or who his wife was.
On the Children of James Byrne and Mary Doyle I have. Mary Margaret ba.20.4.1905 married Michael Knowles.
Paul born 1906 died 1911
Catherine b.1910 d.7.1.1977 married Thomas Snell
Saragh b.1911, I believe she died from burns but I have no date.
Bridget ba.8.10.1913 died 2.6.1979
John ba.3.3.1916 married Dorothy Mary
Susannah Rose/Annie ba.30.6.1918 married John James Gregory/Johnny b.26.3.1906

Children of Annie Byrne and Johnny Gregory: I think have them in the right order but I don't have all the dates.

Hi Jill,
We have just had a terrible thunder & lightening downpore with hailstones. My computer shut down, but thankfully did not lose anything. You can always send my a PM.
I have been researching "Wicklow Town" families for quite a number of years now, and have also tried to keep it up to date. My research has been mostely from census of 1901 & 1911 the only available ones for Wicklow, until the next, which was taken 1926, to be released in 2026, unfortunately too late for me but it will be great for people who have some knowledge of their ancesters in the 1911 census.
Also local knowledge is very helpful. There are still some Knowles families living in Wicklow. Not quite sure of the Byrne family.
Mary Margaret Byrne was known as "Manie" she died 19th December 1975, at 12 St. Bride's Road, Wicklow and is buried in Rathnew Cemetery, Merrymeeting, Rathnew Co Wicklow. Michael & Manie had 10 children bet. 1924 - 1942.
Catherine died January 1977. They had 6 children bet 1937-1948
Bridget died in England.
John dont' know Dorothy Mary's maiden name but Johnny died 30th June 1983 bur Rathnew they had 3 children.
John Vickers married Maryanne Dunn (sic)
They had Kate Vickers & Rosanna both b 8th February 1870. (Twins)
3 Thomas born 24th June 1882, 4 Annie bc 1886.
