Thankyou Chris,
It says that Frances was a widow so that means she was married at some stage to a Duffy. Will see if I can find a Baptism for Ann ,maybe I will then find out who her father was.

Yes, got to agree with you - but that marraige did not take place here in Sussex (not on SMI) so must be in a neighbouring county - possibly Kent.
Maybe an enquiry on the Kent board might not go amiss

Thankyou once again Chris,
I must get a detailed map of England and start trying to figure out where all the Towns and Countys are.I get confused.
Will post on the Kent board as you suggested.

Chris:
Could you check to see if there are any Brigman/Briggman/Bridg(e)man surnames??? I'd really appreciate it!
Thanks, Woman_Hollering

Hi there Terri
Without looking, I know that there is a family of Bridgman(s) there because he was a stonemason and carved a lot of the memorials in this churchyard as well as lots of other yards in Sussex.
What variation of the name does your research favour the most

Hi, Chris:
Oh, yes, I know of whom you refer. It's a bit of a jumble because I strongly suspect that stonemason Bridgman originally spelled his name Brigman or Briggman (or, at least his forebears did). Could you just look at the period prior to 1725 for Brigman or Briggman? That should do me.
Thanks, Terri

Hi Terri
Have checked the following churches in Lewes St John Sub Castro Southover All Saints South Malling
All yielded a NILL result for Brigman / Briggman prior to 1725
Sorry about that
I do not have databases for St Michaels (Anglo Catholic Church) or St Annes churches in Lewes - there may be some in either of those

Hello Chris 1066
I am researching a Tom Mantell from Lewes who was buried at St Johns Sub Castro in February 1928, is there a family tomb in the churchyard or a stained glass window in the Church which I believe Tom Mantell wished to have installed when he died (listed in his will I believe) ?
Many thanks
Sue

Hi again
Sorry, there is not a stained glass window to Tom Mantel - but there is a plaque inside the church which has the following inscription:
CH05 In memory of/ Thomas Austin Mantel/ of this parish/ who died 1st November 1874/ aged 48 years/ also of/ Fanny his wife/ who died 2nd August 1907/ aged 82 years/ also of/ Fanny their daughter/ who died 9th June 1891/ aged 40 years/ and of/ Tom their son/ who died 11th February 1928/ aged 74 years/
Do you want their baptism records and other burial records of relatives / siblings.
I have transcribed all registers and have the details on my computer

Hi Chris
Thank you so much for the pictures and details of the Mantells, its nice to start to get to know them as my Great Grandmother was Tom's housekeeper at 161 High St Lewes for about 30 years until he died
I am finding out lots about his history as an athlete especially running and winning lots of trophies of which he left some to the Lewes Corporation back in 1928 ( I wonder what happened to them ? )
I visited Lewes records office for the first time two weeks ago, so will definitely return again to visit the church and enjoy the lovely town
Regards
Sue
