Everywhere in England is in an Ecclesiastical Parish "sort of thing" . A baptism is usualy in the parish in which the child is born, but could be anywhere, to suit the family.

I see her baptism was in the Parish of All Saints, Hastings, Sussex, England. There were 13 parishes, in the Hastings Poor Law Union, viz.:- All Saints, Fairlight, Guestling, Holy Trinity (or Priory), Ore, Pett, St. Andrew, St. Clement, St. Leonard, St. Mary Bulverhithe, St. Mary-in-the-Castle, St. Mary Magdalen, and St. Michael-on-the-Rock. http://homepages.gold.ac.uk/genuki/SSX/Hastings/ Stan

Besides your alleged marriage to Jacob CURTIS in 1815, there were apparently two other Sarah AVERY marriages in Sussex in 1815. You need to go carefully

Hi
I found 3 marraiges of a Sarah Avery in Sussex in the year 1815 - but not one of them is to a Jacob Curtis
1. Hastings All Saints, East Sussex, Date: 28 Feb 1818: Sarah AVERY & William ROFF 2. Chailey, East Sussex, Date: 30 Sep 1815: Sarah AVERY & Thomas TINGLEY; witnessed by Rich SANDLES; Jn KNAPP 3. Guestling, East Sussex, Date: 23 Jul 1815: Sarah AVARY & Thomas BURGESS
That baptism you referred to is
All Saints, 4th Dec 1815, Sarah Avery, daughter of Edward & Mary - but there is not an Edward Avery marrying a Mary in Sussex during the time period of the baptism

Damn 'Just' what I wanted to come home to ~ Not.
I mean, I hardly expected anyone to be handing me the mystery on a plate. But this is harsh!
Off the top of my head; I Know her name was Sarah Avery. Because I have half a dozen BC's of their kids. " Sarah Curtis. Formerly known as Avery. " No getting round that one.
Some years back now, I was even in touch with like the god of Sussex Avery's. Guy had every Avery in Sussex, back to the year dot ..... Nuff'n!
Jacob Curtis? You tell me! Appears, pushing middle age, on the earliest census', in Portsea. Already hitched to Sarah Avery. Proclaiming himself to be from London / Middlesex. I have Certified chapter and verse, right down to myself here. Just seems like Nothing I do will get me past his belated appearance in Portsea.
These two are just doing my head in. The other side? I have hope for. It just needs time and working on. But, Jacob and Sarah ....?
Thanks for the input, peeps. Much appreciated. At least it completely destroys another, potential path or enquiry.

Why not check the IGI at www.familysearch.org? There's an extracted marriage at Portsea, Hampshire, on 6 Sept 1815 between Jacob Curtis and Sarah Avery. What ever
1851/61/71 say that Sarah was born in Eastbourne. 1841 merely says that she wasn't born in Hampshire

Eastbourne baptisms on the IGI only appear to go up to 1744. Have you looked at the Eastbourne parish register microfilm at your nearest LDS Family History Centre for Sarah's baptism?

Sean, that's just astounding! How on earth did ye find her? What is the " SFHG Database " ? I want to go and have a look at it
Anyway, Thank You, Sean. At a stroke ye've settled one half of one of the biggest bugbears in my entire ancestry. Quality
BB; I'd be spending my life scouring the MF's at the LDS, if there was a centre in reach of me. Only, I don't know of one and suspect there isn't one. I'm in Co. Leitrim, see? Not a lot goes on around here

Steve,
The SFHG (Sussex Family History Group) database is accessible to members; the membership is about £12 a year and well worth it as you can see. You can find them at www.sfhg.org.uk
Regards Sean
