24th Regiment of Foot

Walter Robert Leigh is stated, on his marriage certificate dated 31 October 1876 in Brecon, to be a private in this Regiment.
His daughter's marriage cert in 1903 states father deceased.
He does not appear in the 1881 census.
He does not appear in the medal rolls of the Zulu wars.
Can anyone help me track this mans history or service please?

Hi, Have you tried contacting the Royal Regiment of Wales Museum in Brecon they have a lot of information.   My Grandfather was also in The South Wales Borderers, 24th Regiment of Foot.   Your relative may not have shown up on the census as he may have been out of the country.  I know the Regiment was in India during the 1920's for example, as this is where my Grandfather was when he married my Grandmother.   I also have a brother who joined the South Wales Borderers in 1968, just before it changed to the Royal Regiment of Wales.  If you are unsuccessful gathering any information from the Museum, I can ask him whether he can help.
