Hi I am trying to tie down the correct George Pritchard he was born around 1818 in Shropshire and his father was a Blacksmith William Pritchard.
I keep going around in circles and getting back to Dawley Magna.
George had children by his 1st wife born in Wolverhampton. He was widowed and ends up in Longton, Stoke on Trent.
He was an overseer of colliery engines
I am trying to find where he was born, his mother's name and the name of his 1st wife .
I have his 2nd marriage and his death certs
Cheers Jane

Hi Audrey
Thanks for searching for me - George has died by Feb 1873
I think this might be him:-
GEORGE PRITCHARD Male Event(s): Birth: Christening: 21 DEC 1817 Dawley Magna, Shropshire, England Parents: Father: WILLIAM PRITCHARD Mother: CHARLOTTE
If I knew this William was a blacksmith that would probably clinch it

Thanks for that info
The Cound connection could be significant.
There is a marriage of a Will Pritchard to an Elizabeth Griffiths there 1799.
They go on to have loads of kids but records stop in 1812.

Hiya
Thanks for that - I'm not sure if I'm on the right track or not!
William must have married an Elizabeth, then a Charlotte and then another Elizabeth for it all to fit!!
I have emailed Shropshire Archives to see if they can copy some Parish entries for me but they haven't responded yet.
Another tack would be to get the Staffs 1861 Census and see if I can find George there - I can't fnd him in 1851
Jean - do you know where I can get Montrose Monumental Inscriptions from?
Cheers
Jane

1841 Dawley census
William Pritchard 55 blacksmith Elizabeth Pritchard 65
Address is Dawley Green
Could your William Pritchard possibly be the one baptised 1st Jul 1792 to William & Eleanor in Cound?
He may be the one who married Charlotte ? c1813 (can't find any marriage record) A William & Charlotte had these children baptised in Dawley - Charlotte 24/8/1813 (can't trace burial) Charlotte 1/1/1815 bur. 5/11/1818 aged 4, William 8/10/1815, George 21/12/1817, Charlotte 31/12/1820 bur. 15/8/1822 aged 2, Thomas 1/6/1823 and Mary 4/2/1827.
Charlotte, the wife, was buried 8/5/1829 in Dawley, aged 44.
William possibly married again to Elizabeth (Elizabeth Yates 1830 Wrockwardine?) but there were no children, Elizabeth was probably too old.
If Jesara is correct and the Pritchards weren't C of E then the clergy of Dawley and Wellington wouldn't marry them around this time. I have several marriages in my tree 1785-1830's where the couple travelled to Wrockwardine, Little Wenlock or Eyton to be married because of this.
