Storegate? Old Kilpatrick?
« on: Sunday 01 March 09 20:42 UTC (UK) »

Wondering if anyone can help me out with a place name I have from one of my ancestors census records, their address is "Felshers Land or Lane? in Storegate Old Kilpatrick. It is for a William Stewart and his wife Mary and Family, and William also had a Cooper store in Storegate, and employed 2 men and 2 boys. Does this sound familiar to anybody? I have looked up the place on Google earth, and have also done many searches on google with different spellings and no luck. Hope someone can help thanks!

"Flesher's Lane" sounds feasible.
A Flesher being a old Scots name for a butcher.

How long ago was the census?
The streets may have been wiped away long ago, so you'd have to try a local library for old street plans.

Hiya, Thanks for the post. It is for the 1861 census, and it says "Felshers Land Store Gate " for address. And Storegate, Old Kilaptrick was his place of death in 1885. I would try a local Library, but we're all the way over in New Zealand, so is a bit tricky!!
