I am trying to find birth dates & places or church baptism of an Eliza Giffard about 1801. Daughter of Sir Duke Giffard of Castlejordan and his wife Maria Annarella, maiden name unknown. Eliza married John Armit in 1822. I am having trouble tracing their children's birth. John Henry Armit, William Duke Giffard Armit born about 1825, Maria Arabella about 1826 and Eliza about 1827. William Duke Giffard Armit married in 1846 and I believe may have had a son born there about 1850 whose name is John Christopher Giffard Armit. I am having a lot of trouble finding the date and place of births for the children of Eliza and John and of John Christopher Giffard Armit. Can anyone shed some light on this? I understand the baptism record doesn't start until 1826 for Castlejordan. Thank you.

If you are interested, I have information on the family of William Duke Armit (1875-1945), the son of John and Mary (nee Eyre) Armit. W.D. Armit came to Australia, which is where he married and had his family.

Hi Callantina, I am very interested in any information you can help me with. My husband, Doug Armit, is the grandson of William Duke Armit's younger brother George Henry Armit who went to Canada. I am having a very frustrating time finding the true birth dates and places for the Irish branch of the family. I am trying to back up the information with factual documents. The names were all listed in the original message. I understand William Duke Armit married Hester Christina Mitchell Dec. 11, 1912 at St. Paul's Cathedral in Melbourne and William died in 1945, Aug 25 in Melbourne, Australia. They had four children, I believe. Is that your branch? Nancy Armit

G'Day Nancy,
I am a friend of the Armit family, and know a number of details about their family in Australia. I do not know anything of the family before it came to Australia, so I cannot help you in that regard. If you have William Duke Armit's date of birth (in Dublin) I would be grateful. He had four children but I do not have any details about the two daughters' familes, although I can get them or put you in contact with the family. Do you have any other details about the Australian branch of the family, or would you like me to give you what I have? I am told the Armit name is originally French, and the family is interested in any information about that part of the family's history.
Paul Mishura.

Hi Paul, William Duke Armit was born 1875, Sept 20 at 19 Leeson Park in Dublin. He was baptized 1875, Oct 24 at St. Peter's Church, Dublin. He married 11 Dec 1912 to Hester Christina Mitchell and he died 1945, Aug 25 at East Melbourne, Victoria at age 69. I do have some information about about their two daughters. Mary Christina Armit, born 26 Sept 1913 married Sir James Alexander Forrest and Diana Margaret Fraser Armit born 27 Aug 1920 married Raymond George Baxter. I do have some information on them. I will never turn down any information on the family. I would be grateful for what you have. I am doing a lot of research in Ireland right now, which is a real labour of love. If there is more information I can give you, please let me know. Nancy Armit
