I just wondered if it was available to buy, as I have quite a few I'd like to look up. I have the disk of Phillimore's parish registers for Suffolk, but as I understand it the Boyd's Index has greater coverage for Suffolk.

I wonder could you do me a favour Janglaschu and Suffolk Sue and see if there is a marriage for Isaac Girling around 1800/1820 unfortunately I don't know where.  Because of this it might be a very longwinded search - I don't know how it works - please don't go to any great trouble,

Hi Abiam

There isn't an Isaac Girling marriage listed on the Suffolk Marriage Index 1813-1837 and couldn't find one in the right time frame on Boyds index.

Ah, that does help in a perverse sort of way!  The only clues I have are Suffolk, a niece and Bermondsey Surrey, a daughter.  So now it will be down to Surrey to come up trumps.
Thank you so much for looking for me and so promptly,

Boyds index isn't complete, there are MANY marriages not listed. The marriage you are looking for could still be in Suffolk.

I did find the following burial.

Isaac  GIRLING
Date of burial:    29 June 1832
Place of burial:    St John Horsleydown
Age at death:    52
Approximate year of birth:    1780
Address at death:    Bermondsey St

Thank you!!!  I have just spent a couple of hours looking at the Resource page before seeing if I had any replies.  How daft am I?  That is very helpful I hope.  Can I ask if there is a ******* Girling female who died in St John Horsley Down?
At least I now have an address (if it is him of course) and a possible age and no wonder I can't find him anywhere on the 41 or 51 census.
Thank you Sue, I was beginning to think he was a figment of his daughters imagination

Hi Abiam,

Just out of curiousity have you found where Margaret was living 1841? Was she in service or living with possible relatives?

Hi Trish,
There are two possibles out of four!
On HO107 Piece 661 Folio 1/8 Page 8
there is a Margaret Girling aged 17 living at Great Sutton Street, possibly a lodging house as there seem to be all sorts of people living there.  Several are to do with the jewellry trade watch makers, silver smiths etc. there are families and single people of all ages.  Her age seems to be OK and I wonder if she could have met Joseph Brown as he was a watch finisher and they married in 1847. Not born in county.

On HO107 Piece 1015 Folio 16 Page 25
there is another Margaret Girling aged 18 living at Fenn House Farm Halesworth, Suffolk.
With Ann Girling B. 1796 Laundress
Sarah Girling B 1821
Margaret Girling B 1923
Ann Girling B 1826
Harriet B 1831

All born in Suffolk.

Don't know what to think.  If I have the right Isaac dying in 1832 it would be a little strange him dying in Bermondsey Street with the family in Halesworth.
More likely I think that Isaac and family were living in London and that Margaret had moved out.

The other 2 possibles one Margaret seems to be living with her father and the other is living with her family.

I really don't know what to think!  Any ideas?
Cheers,
Abiam

No I couldn't find a corresponding female dying in the same place of a similar age. His "wife" could have died in a parish not covered by the index.

Hi Abiam,

Personally I would go with the second one, as from your postings I googled, Margaret has a Sarah Girling as witness at her marriage.
Have you tried to find a death for the Ann Girling born 1776 or 1851 census for her?

Sorry, cannot help with this at present as have no access to cnsus images Roll Eyes
