Hi,

Sarah (b. 1830) would only be 13 years old when married (1843)  Undecided ; perhaps a copy of the marriage certificate would be useful.   It should also show the names and occupations of the fathers which might help to find James and Sarah in any Parish Registers.

Hi,

If you are wanting to trace back from James and/or Sarah you will need a copy of their marriage certificate (1843).

Yeah that were my thoughts Nanny Jan but your earlier post has put some doubt over if Sarah IZZARD is the right person?  Embarrassed

Hi,

The marriage certificate should solved the problem;  where did you find her birth year (1830)?  Ages on a census can be inaccurate.

There is certainly a Sarah Izzard listed on the same page for the marriage of James Gregory (1843).

There does semm to be a bit of a gap between the marriage date (1843) and the birth of the first child (Sarah 1851).

Where did you get the children's birthdates from - a census? Do you have any of the children's birth certs which actually name James & Sarah nee Izzard as the parents?

There's a likely looking entry for James & Sarah on Family Search 1881 census.

Deddington, Oxford
RG11  1510/88   Pg8

James Gregory  Head  61  born Clifton, Oxfordshire  agl labourer
Sarah Gregory  Wife   65  born Boddington, Northamptonshire
Clara Gregory  Granddaughter  4 born Clifton, Oxfordshire.

If this is them, looks like Sarah was born c. 1816 rather than 1830.

Hi,

How about these two? Both found in Eton Registraion District in 1851.

Marriage
James GREGORY    Dec Q 1853    Eton    3a  533
Sarah BROOKS
Charles BUNCE
Martha WEBB  with same details.

I can see a Charles and Martha BUNCE with young children in 1861 living in Hitchin (Eton Registration District), So it looks likely that James GREGORY married Sarah BROOKS.

That would mean that Sarah Jnr was born before the marriage, I can't find a Sarah BROOKS or GREGORY born abt. 1851 Eton anywhere Sad

I think getting one of the childrens birth cerificates would be the next best move.
