Dudley cemetery question
« on: Tuesday 03 March 09 15:31 UTC (UK) »

How can I get more details on a MI in the Dudley cemetery beyond the name, plot and date of burial?

I located my great-grandparents  plot in the Dudley council cemetery.
http://www2.dudley.gov.uk/burial_records/RegEnq.asp

Christina Summerville Hill buried 1919 Section A grave 78 (1287) opened up a whole new line of inquiry into her ancestry because this was the first time the middle name was mentioned in any records I have found.

Is it possible the actual inscription says more?

Simon

The inscription might say more, I would think there' be dates at least, but I think an actual visit might be called for - I couldn't find any immediate references to photos for the cemetary on the internet. What there might also be is an entry in the Book of Remembrance, but you would probably need to make an appointment to get to see it - I think the books are kept at the cemetary.

Hope that helps

I telephoned the Dudley Cemetary who made an appointment for me to meet a guide who took me right to the grave - I don't know if this is useful

Thanks for the update. I am in the USA, so perhaps one day I will get to visit!

Hiya I was going near to Dudley Cemetery so decided to check out for your grave, I went all over section A to no avail, there are a hand full which can no longer be read but there are alot with no headstones.
Unsure as to whether any connection there was a stone
For Mother Priscilla Hill died 24th Sept. 1927 , also  Clara Jones 1st Jan 1961 84yrs
(is this a mother and daughter?)
The notice for the cemetery says all enquiries are to be made at Gornal Wood Crematorium

regards

Thank you Elaine that was very thoughtful of you.

Unfortunately I have no Priscilla or Clara in the Hill tree.
If the headstone is gone, that is sad after "only" 90 years.

According to the cemetery locator her husband Frederick Geo. Hill was buried next to her in 1939.
