1841/1851 Census: Kirkland in Spondon
« on: Tuesday 15 February 05 12:15 UTC (UK) »

I'm a newbie to all this, but I wonder if someone could help me. I'm looking for details of William Kirkland in Spondon in the 1841 and 1851 census. He was married to Elizabeth and was born around 1800. The census should show childern called William, Joseph, Thomas (my gtx3grandfather), Sarah and Mary at least. Any information as to age, birthplace, occupation (I think it should say he was a joiner) and other family members would be great.

I don't know if this is possible, but details of other Kirklands in Spondon in 41 and 51 would be very helpful too. In particular, were there other William Ks around still? I have too many Williams who could have been my William's father, if that makes sense.

I'm sorry if I'm asking for too much - please put it down to ignorance and tell me what I can ask.

Many thanks.

Thank you very much - that's very helpful, particularly on William and Elizabeth, although I can't quite see where another Thomas fits in. Wouldn't it be odd to call two of your sons by the same name? I wonder if the 14 year old is a nephew of William snr who came to him to learn the family trade?

Thank you for taking the time to look these up for me - the jigsaw becomes a bit clearer!
