It's a common surname; you may need to purchase (Marriage)? cert to confirm any baptism found

In 1851 he's probably been wed about a year. Daughter is 7months old, wife is jane.
He's 23y (so around 1828 now)

Yes thank you. I do intend to get a wedding certificate as soon as finances allow, but I thought it might be worth asking.
(I did find the marriage on freebmd)

Could you not get a parish copy of the marriage from the records office (Don't know what is deposited)

Read up on records offices. They usually list their holdings, although they won't be indexed, you do have the qtr that the marriage took place in.
