A lookup please for:
Paul Austen Bedford b. 1803 (possibly Surrey but might be Barbados)
Catherine Frances D E Bedford b. 1815 don't know where.
Son, Alfred was born in Devon in 1846 so, I am hoping they may be on this Cemsus.

The 1861 census now has a national index.Do you still need these people?
Can you make your posting a little clearer.
Is the surname BEDFORD........or is that the county you are expecting to find them in?
You mention Surrey,Devon,Bedford and Barbados(and I know which of them I'd rather be in  )
Once we have some more info,one of us will try and find them for you.

The 1861 census now has a national index.Do you still need these people? Can you make your posting a little clearer. Is the surname BEDFORD........or is that the county you are expecting to find them in? You mention Surrey,Devon,Bedford and Barbados(and I know which of them I'd rather be in ) Once we have some more info,one of us will try and find them for you. Regards Carol
The places I mentioned are the places the people were born in.
Bedford is the surname.
Paul A Bedford, wife Catherine and son Alfred may be in or around Devon. In saying that, all them did go to France where the two males died.
I am hoping they may be on the 1861 Census. Where? Well, I am at a loss really. They moved around a bit by what I can gather. Paul was a Minister.
I appreciate your reply and hope you may be able to see them on a Census.
NB: I think I know where I would rather be at the moment. Getting down to -3 tonight here in Canberra, Australia.

There are 4 Paul Bedfords in the 1861 index, and only two of these are within 30 years of his birth year. One was an unmarried 63 year old bricklayer, the other a 59 year old comedian with a wife called Mary and 3 children. I didn't think either of these was compatible with a vicar!
Equally there are no Alfred Bedfords born in Devon, and only 3 Catherines born within 5 years of 1815 and none of them fit.
The IGI shows him as being christened in Barbados on 4 Aug 1804. As this is a controlled extract I would place a lot more credence on this than on the two member submissions with just "about 1809" on the IGI which seem to have the same parents so presumably relate to the same Paul Austin Bedford. Doesn't alter the fact though that they don't seem to be on the 1861. Perhaps they were already in France. When did they die over there (over here actually as I'm in France!)?
Have you tried a look up in Crockfords for Paul?

Like David(bonjour) I too have looked for your Bedford's and despite trying all the Alfred's born in Devon within 5 years of 1846,found nothing.
Why don't you do a new posting on the Devon message board asking for an 1851 look up,just incase they are still there 4/5 years after Alfred's birth.
Was he an only child by the way?
It must be the day for comedians, I found a father and son comedian pair earlier for someone,who was looking for someone else.She did reply that there were many comedians in the family but .........

I noticed that Bedford comedian early in my research. Alfred wasn't the only child, there was a daughter who died in Bexley Heath Kent (Catherine Blackett).
I will try another posting.
