1861 Census - Thomas IRELAND
« on: Thursday 05 March 09 06:55 UTC (UK) »

Hi List,

I'm hoping someone might be able to check 1861 Census for Thomas IRELAND (b 1812?) and wife Agnes (b 1839, Angus).

They were married in Monifieth, Angus in Nov 1860 but then moved to Fife by Aug 1861.

many thanks

Fred

That would be 'Mutto's Lane' with a query on the spelling of " Muttos' ".

Give them credit for the capital 'M' and the 'tt'  Grin

It's definitely Muttos Lane, BTW, see item 4.3.2 on p3 of http://www.standrewscc.net/archive/0209minutes.pdf

I shudder to think what a certain company has made of other surnames and info on the same page, e.g. Alex LEASK, Hotel Keeper, 45, Crosskeys Hotel, Market Street, parish of birth Strichen !

It's not that bad a hand, just a bit different !, especially some of his final letters compared to the same letters in the middle of a word, and some of his capitals are unusual, - his capital 'L' is a lulu, and as for 'F' and 'D' !.......

Many thanks to you both. Fancy Muttos Lane still existing!
