Moloney's Hotel, Limerick
« on: Thursday 05 March 09 12:05 UTC (UK) »

I understand there was a Moloney's Hotel on Catherine St., Limerick in the first half of the 19thC. Does anyone know where I can find out more about it particularly who owned it? What is on the site now? Has the original building been demolished? I would appreciate any information. Thank you.

http://www.limerick.ie/webapps/tradesreg/TradesReg.aspx

There was a hotel in Bedford Row run by Ellen Moloney called the National, this building no longer exists

There were three hotels in Catherine St - the Imperial burned down and became a bacon shop and now a cafe.

The Commercial now a pub- Daffys

The Thomond now a pub- Mollys? was Hogans

Many thanks for that - I really appreciate your help. I have looked at this helpful site and it does list Molony's Hotel (Posting House and Livery Stables) it seems it was on the corner of Roches St and Catherine St and appears in the directories btween 1824 and 1846. The search is on to find out more about it!  No sign of Ellen Moloney at the National.
Thanks again

The hotel on the corner of Catherine St and Roches St was the Imperial.  There are photos of it from 1920.

Thank you Limericklad. I guess Molony's must have been its former name in first half of 19th C. I would love to see the photos - are they available online? Do you think there might be any records in existence for the hotel? I don't know Limerick I'm afraid but I imagine there is a local record office. I really do appreciate your help - this is a family line which has proved particularly difficult to trace despite my 20 year search. One other question - do you have a date when Ellen Moloney ran the National hotel?
Regards and thanks again

Hi

PM won't allow an attachment, so I'll post it here.  the hotel was called Sadliers at that stage, which i hadn't realised.

regards

Many thanks for that. I think the hotel may still be called the Imperial - you can see part of the word on the far left. P Sadlier could be the proprietor. I appreciate your help.
