Hi Cathay,

I think I've sorted my senior moment  Embarrassed

Disregard the 1891 Hackney Census, this is definitely wrong.

I've found Annie Willey in Brighton,

Ref: rg12/806

Annie E Willey,   Boarder, Marr, age 25, b: Brighton
Annie L Willey,   Daug, age 5mths, b: Brighton.

No sign of Charles A Willey though, tried everything I know but no luck. Could have been oversea's I suppose.

1891, 1881 and 1871 for George Willey are correct, all dates and places are correct as far as I can see.

Looking at the connection between Charles Willey and George Willie, it is only the 81 census that connects them, so I'm going to look again at all the clues and see if I can find more.

Will keep you posted.

Hi all,

been busy, so i am just catching up again

Annie Eliza Scutt.

Free Bmd has three possible births

Ann Maria B. Cuckfield 1863 (igi says parents are Henry and Maria)
Ann Scutt B. Thakeham 1864. (IGI not recorded unles mich later)
Annie Eliza B. Brighton 1865 Dec Q

We want to find Annie Eliza.

IGI has a christening for Ann Eliza Scutt
07 JAN 1866       St Nicholas, Brighton, Sussex, England
Parents William Scutt and Ann.

I found William and Ann in 1861 Census
9 Marine View Brighton.

William Scutt  head Age 32 - Porter - B.Sussex Shipley
Anne Scutt wife Age 32 - Leicestsershire Quarndon
Thomas age 7 B. Brighton Sussex
George  age 4 B. Brighton Sussex
Dora A  Age 2 B. Brighton Sussex
Sarah  age 3mnths B. Brighton Sussex

I think this is likely to be her family because the adress thay are at is not far from the church where she was christened.

Regards,

Jim

Morning Jim,

Wow, you have found no end, I really need to get to grips with the BMD...lol

I still can't get the connection with either set's of parents I found for Charles Willey. Still not sure if the 1861 is an age error or another set of parents altogether???

Everything seems to match up with the 71 except the ages of the parents  Huh.

I've been unable to find any other parents that might fit, with his birth place as Lindfield, which we know is correct from the 1901 and 1911 census (we know these one's are correct).

What is really needed is a death or marriage cert's that would confirm the parent(s) name, that's what I like about the Scots records you just go to SP and print them off, (well mostly  Wink ).

Do you have any suggestion's (polite please) of any another way to look at this, I am tearing my hair out here, and going round in circles.  I hate to be beaten by census reporters, horrid people  Cheesy.

Cor it's confusing!!

I found this.

Free bmd has a marriage
1851 Sept. Q. Cuckfield.
George Willey and Jane A Daws or Dawes.

So this should be the happy couple.

IGI has a birth of Jane Ann Dawes in Ardingly Sussex 6th April 1832 - No Father shown - mother Sarah Dawes
................................................................................

1851 Census Ardingly
Thomas Dawes Head- Age ?  - agricultural laborour - B. Ardingly
Jane Dawes wife- Age 42  -              - B. Ardingly
William - son- Age 1                          B. Ardingly
James - son- Age 8                             B. Ardingly
Mary Ann - daughter - Age 5               B. Ardingly
Sarah Ann - daughter - Age 3             B. Ardingly

Charlotte - grand daughter - Age 2    B. Ardingly
Sarah - sister - Age 56 -  Nurse          B. Ardingly
Jane Ann - niece - Age 19 - servant - B. Ardingly

This could be Jane but she should only be 9, It could be just a coincidence that she is below Sarah and IGI gives Jane Annes mother as Sarah?

Hi Jim,

By Jove I think you've got it.

That would make the 71, 81, 91 census correct for George and Jane.

But....just to confuse more...1861 with the incorrect ages, has a Sarah Dawes as a Lodger aged 67 (age unclear) b: Ardingley. Think the census guy in 61 was having a laugh with us, as son, Henry was 9 years old and this would fit in with your findings for the marriage date.

I've found 2 other census's for 41 and 51.

1851  HO.107/1642.   67 London Rd, Lindfield.

William Willie  Head, Marr, age 29, Ag Lab, b:Lindfield
Caroline Willie  Wife, age 25, b: West Hoatley (couple of miles down the road).
Emily Willie   Daug, age 1, b: Lindfield
George Willie, Lodger, Unmarr, age 26, Ag Lab, b: Lindfield.

1841 HO 107/111/8   Lower Sheriff (?) West Hoatley

George Willie   age 15, Ag Lab, b: in county
Hannah Willie, age 49, FS, b: in county.

These 2 I'm not sure of but ages and area are good. Need more to connect them.

Hi Jane,

I think that the 1861 census details were probably given to the enumerator by old Sarah Dawes who had either had a drink or was losing it a bit!!! Still her being there does link it all together.

I couldn't find Sarah or Jane Ann in 1841 though.

Grin

Sounds like one of my lot...lol

I couldn't find them either in 41.

Well Cathay I hope we've found the right lot now, no sign of Rom, Gypsy or Tinker connection though, you must have had someone marry "in" along the way...it happens to the best of us  Wink

It's been fun, I'm now off to look for some of mine, I won't mention Sarah Clark who has bothered me for over 5 years now, she drives me crazy and every couple of months I go back to her...so here goes...again Roll Eyes

Jane.
