This looks like a cross match for the marriage  - from the familysearch civil index :

Record type: Marriage

Name: Edward M Nulty
district: Stranorlar
year: 1865
Volume: 7 / Page: 359

Name: Eliza Jane Ellison
district: Stranorlar
year: 1865
Volume: 7 / Page: 359

Stranorlar is the registration district which includes the town of Ballybofey.

I thought '..married abt 1865..' meant you didn't know the exact details. Irish Civil marriage certs for that time dont  show mother's name.

The next step would usually be to find the parent marriages - full registration began in 1864, Non-Catholic marriage registration began in 1845.

If the marriage was before Civil registration started then Parish Records is they way to go - Co. Donegal is not included on the Irish Family History Foundation Website at the moment - so micro-film in the National Library or an LDS centre may be the answer.

edit : or locate the births of the bride and groom using the fathers names as confirmation..

parents would usually only be mentioned on the death certs of children - the other name mentioned is the informant, which can be a doctor or relative.

Hello Ladydeen

It might be a good idea to post a new request asking about the religion of the Church. Sorry, can't help with that one, but hopefully someone else can answer your question.

I am also struggling in my search for Irish ancestors and have found the new Irish BMD registrations pilot site to be of some help. If you know the area where the families came from you could search for death registrations for your surnames and perhaps be able to find deaths for the parents of Eliza Jane and Edward. If surnames are unusual you may find them more easily.

One of the families I am searching for also has a surname beginning with Mc and thanks to a tip from someone giving tips for searching I found additional entries by searching for McXXXX, Mc XXXX (with a space after Mc) M'XXX

Here is a link (I think) to a thread giving tips about searching this new resource.

Good luck with your search
