Hi Alepohori

Possibility that John Snr. may have died by 1841? This looks like the family in 1841:

Helen Sherman 45
John Sherman    15, agr. lab.
Basil Sherman    13 shoemaker app.

Address: Lawrieston Village, Balmaghie, Kirkcudbrightshire

There are children showing to them on IGI, unfortunately it's one of those batches that LDS only loaded the girls' births and christenings:

1. ELISABETH SHENNON Birth: 13 JAN 1812 Kirkcudbright, Kirkcudbright
2. CATHARINE SHENNON Birth: 10 APR 1824 Kirkcudbright, Kirkcudbright
3. HELEN SHANNON  Christening: 04 SEP 1830 Balmaghie, Kirkcudbright

Hopefully more entries will show on the OPR index on Scotlands People www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk

With the early birth of 1812 for Elizabeth, unlikely John, father's birth year would have been c. 1802 - where did you get this date from?

Monica  :)

OPRs are the Old Parish Registers  :) Just checked on Scotlands People at the link I gave earlier, but there are no more entries showing for John and Helen's children other than the ones that show on IGI unfortunately. I searched for Sh*n*n to try and pick up on spelling variants.

Lot of reasons for this (apart from the fact that it cost money to register births!). Not all parish registers have survived over the years, many have been destroyed or lost.
