HELP I have hit a brick wall!!!!
« on: Friday 06 March 09 16:40 UTC (UK) »

I really hope someone can help me I have hit a brick wall and I can't get any further.

i'm trying to find information on my great great grandma, Harriet Rosier (Rosiar/Rozier)
I have found here in census from 1861 to 1901

She was born Dec 1857 in Wetheringsett/Hartismere

In 1861 she was living with her aunt and uncle Harriet and George Rolfe. From the age of 3 to 23 she was living with them, I know she got married between 1881 and 1891

THE INFORMATION I AM LOOKING FOR is who are Harriet Rosier's parents? I'm assuming they must have died when she was young and that is why she is living with her aunt and uncle.

I've tried finding Harriet Rolfe before she was married to try and find out her parents which would be Harriet Rosiers grandparents and look that way but to no avail.

Any help will be much appreciated

Thank you

Hi Alison

I suppose the easiest way would be to buy her birth certificate  Smiley

Dec 1857  Hartismere    4a   451    ROSIER  Harriett Eliza

Will have a look for the aunt in earlier census
The only marriage I can see for her is Dec 1846 Hartismere  13   1102
Rolfe  George and on same page  BROWN  Harriet    so wonder if she was married twice?

Presumably young Harriet could just as easily have been a niece (by blood) of George Rolfe as of his wife Harriet?

But then wouldn't her surname be Rolfe not Rosier?

If Harriet married to George Rolfe was Harriet Brown, (they are still together in 1851) and Harriet's sister married a Rosier, that would work

But then wouldn't her surname be Rolfe not Rosier?

Not necessarily.  If young Harriet's mother was a sister of George Rolfe, then the child would be George's niece without sharing his surname.

I don't share a surname with any of my aunts and uncles, because they're all on my mother's side and I have my father's surname.

A death for Ann      Hartismere      Sep 1870 age 41.

It could be she went to live with aunt & uncle and just stayed.

Ann not at home in 1861, so maybe that's why Harriet was with aunt - and as Tazzie says, just stayed

A son, Jarvis Rosier, 10 b Wetheringsett, is with him

Jarvis seems to be David J. Rosier in 1891, in service in Cottingley, Yorks: RG12/3534/25/5

...and simply David Rosier at birth reg, Jun 1870 Hartismere 4a 559.  I wonder whether his mother died of complications from the birth.
