Taylor/McMorrine marriage 1850/1851 census
« on: Friday 06 March 09 20:46 UTC (UK) »

Hello There......

I would be so grateful, if someone could have a look at the image of a marriage on Scotlands People. I have tried unsuccesfully ! and run out of credits

It took place between William Taylor and Elizabeth McMorrine 1850 at Dalbeattie, Kirkcudbrightshire

I have a family on the 1851 census

Mill Street, Dalbeattie

William Taylor / age 29 / born England / malleable Iron worker
Elizabeth Taylor / age 42 ? / born Scotland
Elizabeth Taylor / daughter / age 7 / born England
CHARLOTTE Taylor / daughter / age 5 / born England
Jane Taylor / daughter / age 2 / born England
Mary Outhart / daughter in law / age 11 / born England

I feel pretty certain, that this is my 4 x great grandmother and family, who I have been searching for in England !! in 1851. I know her father married a 2nd wife , Elizabeth, from Scotland. All the ages and names for the children are correct.........

I would like to clarify Elizabeth snr age . It is about 10 years out , if she is "mine"
And is Mary "Outhart" really Mary Coulthard ?

I have unlimited acces to Findmypast. I would be more than happy to reciprocate with any help there.

I cannot find the above family on the 1861 Scottish census.

It is the first Scot , I have found in my family.....so far

Thank you

Thank You Gadget.....

Everything on the 1851 census, matches the family of my forebear, Charlotte Taylor born 1846, her father William , born 1822, and her siblings. The occupation of William is correct.......

He married a Jane Coulthard in 1845, registered Carlisle.......

I have been unable to trace the family, on the 1851 England census, and I have been searching for years.... really to find out where Jane Coulthard was born....by 1861, my William is remarried to a Elizabeth, from Scotland, and is living at Coppenhall , Cheshire.

Quite by chance, today, I came across this family.... I am pretty certain that William and the children , are mine, so to speak. It means that my 5 x great grandmother Jane, died. perhaps giving birth to her daughter Jane. ( I am descended from Charlotte )

I would like the name of William's father, and occupation , from the image of the certificate. Just to make sure I am on the right track......

I don't know what happened on Scotland People tonight. Every time I wanted to view this image, It took my credits....and gave me someone elses marriage details.....

The Carson bit is interesting...perhaps she was a widow...

And the Mary Outhart. I wonder if it could be a mistranscription for Coulthard ?

Thank You for your speedy reply

There are very rarely  father's names on Scottish OPRs. Statutory registration didn't begin in Scotland until Jan 1855.

Sadly, they seem not to have stayed in Scotland long enough to obtain much information.

Have you checked for a possible marriage* for William in England and also certs for the other children, including Mary?

* I see that you have his marriage to Jane in 1845 - you really need to get this marriage cert for his father's details
