William GIBSON & Susannah BAKER

William GIBSON born circa 1791 at unknown & Susannah BAKER born circa 1803 Surrey, are my gt, gt, gt, gt grandparents.

In 1841 they are recorded on the census as living at Anchor Row, Orchard, Peckham.  In 1851, some of the family, (but not William GIBSON senior), are living at 32 Paradise Place, Camberwell - (my 3 x great uncle, Stephen GIBSON is listed as a 13 year old scholar at a 'ragged school') ... Stephen GIBSON's sister Esther GIBSON born 1847 Peckham is my 3 x great grandmother.

I was wondering if anyone else shares the above family and has any info. regarding where William GIBSON originated from?  Also, does anyone know where the ragged school near Paradise Place might be?  Many thanks!

Susan Gibson gives her birthplace as Peckham on the 1861 census.

RG9 383 folio 93
14 Stafford Street Camberwell
Susan Gibson 59 Head Widow Washerwoman Peckham Surrey
Hurt? Gibson 20 Daughter Needlewoman Peckham Surrey
Isabella Gibson 16 Daughter Domestic servant Peckham Surrey
Esther Gibson 14 Daughter Peckham Surrey

William Gibson gives his age as 50 on the 1841 census which may not be exact (1841 census adult ages, those over 15, are usually given to the nearest 5 below their actual age). Between 1841 and 1861 there are only two William Gibson deaths registered in Camberwell.

Deaths Sep 1851 
GIBSON  William    Camberwell  4 39   
Deaths Mar 1857   
Gibson  William     Camberwell  1d 323

One is likely to William Gibson in Camberwell workhouse on the 1851 census. His status is given as married but his age as 69 which may or may not be correct. Have you been able to rule him out?

I did find one in Lower Park Rd, Camberwell, but couldn't track it back before 1871.
