Lucy FAULKNER
« on: Sunday 12 July 09 22:34 UTC (UK) »

Hi

I am looking for info on Lucy Faulkner, born C1868 at St. Peters in St. Albans. I know that she had a son in early 1886, (James Faulkner) and that she then married James Allen at the end of 1887, But I can find no trace of her on either the 71 or 81 census, her mothers name could have been Anne Sarah or possibly just Sarah.

Any help much appreciated.

Regards

Marriage, Dec 1887, James Arthur Allen, St. Alban's vol. 3a, page 717 (FreeBMD)

The certificates should give you more details.

The Horseshoes Pub, now known as The Three Horseshoes, is still there opposite Notcutts Garden Centre.  I pass it at least once a week.

Hi Rick

I was wondering about that place of birth, I too had pondered whether they were born in a pub or was there a place called Horse Shoes? Given that other people on the same page of the census also state that they were born in Horse Shoes I think it must have been a place. However, I have not been able to find a map on the 'net' that helps and as I'm in Ireland I cannot get to the county archives to look.

Hi Ian

It wasn't unusual in rural locations for an area to take on the name of a local landmark. Also when enumerators were wandering the countryside they obviously needed to make geographical references.

This area is probably half way between Hatfield and St Albans.  The nearest hamlets were probably Smallford and Sleapshyde and the actual parish would have been St Peter's Rural, St Albans.

Hello Ian
Are you interested in Lucy's son JamesArthur Faulkner?  I know that he was born March qtr 1886 but don't have a birth date for him, or know when he died.  He married my great aunt.
