Good luck with the note...I think that's a great idea at this stage...people are either extremely interested in History, or the exact opposite...let's hope that you get the former...so that you can keep chuggin' on down the line...(  Roll Eyes Oh, baaaad...) What fun you are having with this!  Grin J.J.

The Plot Thickens. Roll Eyes
On the census for 1891 the property was called GN Crossing and was definitely at the location l am interested in. Ten years earlier the family were living at the Hatfield Hyde Gatehouse, which l had assumed was close to the Hatfield Hyde Halt which was at the location previously described as GN Crossing.  Still with me???
It occurred to me that when looking at the Census l could also view the pages before and after......and get this....a couple of pages after Hatfield Hyde Gatehouse is Red Lion Hotel, which still exists, and then entries for North Road which l would expect to be Great North Road now. I am going to list the details to see if they make any more sense. There is one thoroughfare that l have never heard of...RAUTERS ROW???
Watch this space. Roll Eyes

Hi Steve,

Quite a coincidence. I was searching on the net for one of my ancestors and found they lived in Rauter's Row, Hatfield Hyde in the 1891 census. I'd not heard of it before so searched and your thread came up. I'm interested now if you manage to learn anything about it.

Cheers,

Steve

Hi Steve and welcome to Rootschat.

Any discoveries will be posted here so keep watching, hope you find this site as encouraging as l do.

See my other thread about local maps where l have listed some Rauters Row residents....your ancestors are more than likely there.

Best regards.......Steve.

The key to all this may be in finding out where "RAUTERS ROW" was. It appears on the previous page of the census of 1881.

Have obtained a few maps but its not there, would be grateful to hear from anyone who might know where it was.

Thanks.....

Steve.
