Perth Court Criminal Records

Just found an ancestor sentenced to deportation to Australia for 7 years. Court case was 1836 in Perth and sailed in 1837. I would like to know his crime. Can anyone tell me where to find these court records?

National Archives of Scotland web site should tell you if they have the records. Or the EK or is it AK Bell - library in Perth? They have lots of old newspapers and may help if you email them

COMPLETED. Thanks to you both I have had a great reply from Perth and have learned that my ancestor was transported for stealing a handkerchief and a pair of stockings which he admitted and a razor, which he did not admit. Pretty draconian.
