Need some help.. re Collins
« on: Tuesday 10 March 09 22:10 UTC (UK) »

Researching the Collins family from the Dudley area.

Sarah Blaney Collins  born 10 October 1872, 33 chapel Street Primrose Hill Dudley to father Job Collins and Mother Eliza nee Cartwright. Sarah Blaney married Joseph Spittle in  1900 and was living in Wednesbury, the 1911 census shows her place of birth as Netherton - is this the same location as Dudley?

I've had very little success locating either Sarah Blaney or her parents on earlier census returns. The only thing I've found is a record of a Blaney Collins year of birth 1873 place of birth Netherton living with Benjamin and Betsy Nicklin at Union Street Wednesbury working as a domestic servant, she is listed as niece.

I could only see one marriage between a Job Collins and Eliza Cartwright - this was during 1868. I order the certificate and it shows Job and Eliza were married the parish Church Dudley - St Thomas'?, on 15 March 1868, Job was 19 Eliza was 18. Jobs occupation is recorded as a pattern maker as is his fathers who is recorded as Aaron Collins. Eliza's father is Thomas Cartwright a furnace man. The witness are William henry Collins and Elizabeth cartwright.

Would anybody recognise any of the above or give me any clues as to furthering my search.

thanks

Update have discovered the following tonight...

Aaron and Hannah Collins. Children as follows

Joseph 1845
Thomas 1838
Aaron 1840
Samuel 1842
Jesse 1845
Eli 1847
JOB 1850
William Henry 1853

All boys!!!

William Henry was the witness at Jobs marriage to Eliza Cartwright. Will order one of  birth certs to hopefully enable me to go another generation back. Do believe that Job died young so will order death cert as per Jacs suggestion

"A possible...Death Job Collins 1879 age 28  Dudley  vol 6c  page 70"

Also regarding the marriage info for Ben and Betsy Nicklin. the witnesses are Job Collins and Mary Ann Hasbury I believe this Mary Ann to actually be Mary Ann Asbury nee Cartwright, IGI lists their marriage (extracted sourse) 9 June 1867... thanks again Jac and Jim.

Not having so much luck with the Cartwrights however...can't find Eliza anywhere... any ideas?

Thanks so much everyone again I am ever so grateful ;Dl

Thanks Jac - these are definately the ones. I wonder what happened to Eliza and the other children Hannah and Elizabeth? I can't find them anywhere. I suppose they all could have died before the next census as I believe Job did. Tragic but I suppose not uncommon in those days considering the conditions people had to live and work in.
