Maidmarionoops,

So far I have only got his name is Thomas Durant (ie no middle name)... This is my first significant brick wall (I have perhaps had it a bit easy so far!) but all these hints might help me crack it or make an educated guess. Thanks again.. all really helpful.

The nightmare scenario is that they never actually got round to getting married and making it official, but pretended they did. I would have thought that was very unusual in those days..

Hannah Fern is there in Sep 1862, but the page un-indexed.

If you have Ancestry search for John Fenton, look at the page then it is on the next page.

Deryck

Hi all...

I thought I should finally let you know that lots of to-ing and fro-ing with the GRO about the relevant certificate, thanks to you all I now, FINALLY have resolved this issue and have a copy of the marriage certificate in my hands.

It confirms what I had so far on Hannah Fern's side, and that I was on the wrong track with Thomas Durant (luckily, I had made a not of BOTH Thomas Durants and could easily replace his parents with the right ones).

Now I can progress further without having to junk it later because I was completely wrong. This is my first major brick wall (not too many so far thank goodnes), which you all helped me to break down.

THANK YOU

Marcus,

I need to check with a friend but if my memory is correct I should be able to connect you to a cousin of yours with that connection
