Forde from Monaghan
« on: Wednesday 11 March 09 08:56 GMT (UK) »

Any help on this appreciated.
I am trying to find any details for a John Joseph Forde c1898 and or his father John Forde c1869.
I know they emigrated to USA in 1910 and according to Ellis Island records they came from the Monaghan area. They travelled together and there were no other relatives on the manifest so presume mother/wife had died or been left behind.
Do they appear on 1901 census or BMDs?
As I say, any and all help greatly appreciated.

you can search Irish Civil BMD index on familysearch, see : http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=2;t=searchable;c=1408347

there's a few possible matches for John jnr - none in Monaghan, but the first two look promising, one in 1898 on New Ross, Co. Wexford and the 2nd in Dungannon in 1897

you can use the index details (name, year/quarter, registration district, volume & page no.) to order any possible cert from the GRO - www.groireland.ie

Using previously mentioned system I have found the following:
John Forde married Oct-Dec 1895 in Monaghan.
It fails to tell me his wifes name, how can I get this without resorting to getting a cert?

you have to order the cert to find out the name of his wife - there's no way on the familysearch Irish Civil system to cross reference the bride & groom.

Is there anyone who could look up on the 1901 census a John Forde who had son John Joseph and Patrick, they would have been 3years old and 1 year old. Interested in any other family members at that time. I believe John was a Lawyer in Monaghan.

There are plans for the 1901 Census for Monaghan to go online at the National Archives of Ireland website (http://census.nationalarchives.ie/) - they are currently working on the 1911 data.

The existing microfilms are not indexed by name so it would be difficult for anyone to look up without knowing the electoral district the Forde family live in.

As you appreciate it has been a while since the original posting and i did get the certificate from Belfast. He married Jane Hanley on 18 Oct 1895 at Urbleshanny Chapel, Drumsdesco, Monaghan, Ireland.

I am very greatful for the time you took in obtaining this info for me.
