I've been trying to find the parents of Isabella Proctor Hind with no success. I'd be interested to know if anyone could help.

HI,,ONLY ONE I COULD FIND WAS AN ISABELLA HIND IN THE 1881 CENSUS{FREE TO LOOK AT} LIVING AT 5 LIME STREET,,CALDEGATE,CARLISLE WITH HER TWO ELDER BROTHERS AND ONE ELDER SISTER,,,PARENTS LISTED AS SAMUEL HIND AGE 53 BORN 1828 IN WARMPHRAY,SCOTLAND,,,,,,,ELEANOR HIND AGE 55,,BORN 1826 BORN CUMBERLAND. IN 1891 AGED 19 SHE IS A HOUSEMAID IN A HOTEL IN WORKINGTON. MIGHT BE HER Huh

Mother Eleanor no maiden surname given. Huh

Might have been an earlier Isabella who died Huh

(I'm not familiar with cumberland so it may be nowhere near Carlisle)

Hi Alison
For future reference we all use the free sites that this information has come from. www.familysearch.org has the International Genealogical Index on it which has a lot of baptisms and marriages - not all but very helpful if they happen to be there. You have to be wary of submitted records as they have been put on by church members and you do not know the source though they often have a grain of truth in them. Extracted records are usually reliable. The 1881 census is also available free on that site.
www.freebmd.org.uk has many post 1837 civil registration records on it. Again, not full coverage but getting there so it is a very useful tool. Her marriage in 1902 is on there. getting that certificate would give the fathers' names but the birth certificate that Bob has quoted will give both her parents.

If you don't mind me asking, how do you know her date and place of birth? There is this birth,

Isabella Proctor HIND Mar Q 1882 Cockermouth 10b 511

but I can't find her on later censuses or her death Huh

Alison, I haven't checked Daisy's info but if that's correct you may well have fallen into a trap.
Isabella from Carlisle is just Isabella and I thought it strange that there wasn't an initial with her name. If an Isabella Proctor appears in Cockermouth 10 years later you are connecting 2 families wrongly. We've all done it but you need to carefully check your sources - especially the submitted ones as Andrea says. For instance the carlisle family has Isabella born in 1872 according to IGI but thats only because her birthday was after census day in 1881.

Isabella was my father's aunt through marriage to his father's brother. I received her year and place of birth from a cousin. We're trying to find who her family was.

Hi Daisy,
Isabella was married to my grandfather's brother. I received her year and place of birth from her grandson, however, neither of us know her family prior to marriage and we're looking for clues.
I had checked a few web sites, however, nothing clicked in terms of feeling certain that we'd found her family. So I thought I'd ask here.

I fear Daisy is right and the Isabella Proctor Hind who married Frank Doran Q3 1902, Carlisle was born Cockermouth Q1 1882 and grandson got it wrong but at least you can send for the certificate and get her parents.
