Where do I go from here - McManus of Galway?
« on: Tuesday 28 April 09 20:16 UTC (UK) »

John McManus (c1838 Galway) married Bridget Finn (c1835 Galway) in Manchester 1860. I have them in the 1861 census for Manchester and have followed the McManus line from there.

From their marriage record I have learned that John's father was James McManus (deceased) formerly working as a Labourer.

I have been unable to find James and John in the 1851 census so suspect that they may have arrived in England after this year???

Having never researched Irish families before I do not know where to start or what is available.

Any advice or direction would be greatly appreciated.
