1901 Census - Clement Long and Wife.
« on: Friday 13 March 09 17:25 UTC (UK) »

Help!

Can anyone find my Clement Long  and his wife Elizabeth Ellen on the 1901
Census please?  They were last documented on the 1891 census living at The Hope Inn
Canal street Kings Lynn.  Elizabeth Ellen was then surnamed Bouch.  They married
later that year.

I have been unable to locate them on the 1901 or the 1911 Census.  Any ideas welcome.

Their age & birthplace at any given census?
The ONLY census which is freely searchable by address is 1881.

Hi Pauline J,

Been scrabbling around for my records,
1891 census gives the address as 18 Canal street(Hope Inn)
Elizabeth E  Bouch 17 .....born cambridgeshire Wisbech
Clement Long  is listed as Clemmet Long .....23 born Cambridgeshire  Elm
(which somewhere I have as Emneth Wisbech)

FBMD.  gives 1873 for Elizabeth
and 1868 for Clement

Sorry Folks,
I thought that the Hope inn was in Kingslynn, I now see that at the top of the page
it has Civil Parish Wisbech St Peter.

Excuse my ignorance but if I am reading this census sheet correctly
I have  RG12/1304 114 16 not as posted by Tati - cannot see an 87

Tati's is correct - the 114 you quote is the Enumerators Schedule number for the Household - you dont see the Folio 87, as its stamped on alternate pages ....

Thankyou all for your help -  I do not expect to find them out of the country.
Can trace Clement until 1891 and from the 1930`s until his death but not with his wife.
All ancecdotal evidence has drawn a blank was hoping that I had overlooked
them on the 1901 and the 1911 census. ( Will look at the passenger lists just in case!)

It is possible that Clement and Elizabeth are in Wisbech in 1901 - at least, Ancestry seem to have made a bit of a pig's ear of Wisbech enumeration district 6.

Seaching for Longs born in Wisbech 1891-1900 (in case there were any children to find) I tried to look at an E R Long b 1900, who is indexed as a grandchild of 'C'.

The census image this links to is a single page of Wisbech St Peter's (no previous or next pages to go to).  E R Long is not on this page, although oddly, it includes 18 Canal Street, where Elizabeth's bother John Bouch is recorded.  Her brother George is on the same page.

I tried going through Wisbech district 6 page by page and couldn't find any Longs - but the pages are muddled, and the district description pages (which should be linked separately) are mixed in with them.

I had the same problem this morning, and gave up reporting wrong images to Ancestry! I'm not sure that they've missed anyone though, or whether they've just directed us to the wrong image pages
