Anderson/Gallagher marriage Dunoon and Killman ?
« on: Friday 13 March 09 19:46 UTC (UK) »

Hi

Wondering is anyone can help with the marriage of a John Anderson to a Mary Gallagher
between 1901 and 1909  ?

I found John in the 1891 and 1901 census listed as being in Dunoon and Killman, Argyll living
with his family. He was born in 1881in Liverpool and his father was Thomas.

I knew that my grandmothers eldest sister had been adopted (I guess not formally but it seems
to have been planned before the child was born) .
When the 1911 census was available I found her with my GGmother with the name Edith McCraw(McGraw) Anderson so was able to order birth cert. This confirmed the date of birth and gave me the parents names, the father was John Anderson and the mother was Mary Anderson formerly Gallagher.

This rang bells and I am pretty sure she was the daughter of the John A in my tree. John was first cousin of my GGmother.

Info passed on to my mum was that my GGmother had been married for 4 years and thought she couldn't have children herself so adopted Edith in 1909 and then in 1913 had my Guncle and 1915 my Grandmother.
My grandmother thought that Mary was having the illegitimate child of another man and had been sent down to Liverpool to have it.

Sorry this is a long story but hopefully someone can help me with the marriage  Grin

Thanks

Hi UKD,

Only one marriage in Scotland between a John Anderson and a Mary G*l*r (to pick up on all those Gallagher variants Grin) and that was 1897 in Greenock. Unfortunately not your's, though ... parents are John Anderson and Mary Morgan. Sad

Maybe John and Mary were not married, and that's why Mary had her baby in England?
