Could anyone help or point me in the right direction please ? I am trying to find my Mothers family. My mother was Brenda Doris Bryan. In 1956 she married Richard Jesse Bennett born Salford Lancs 1929. Mother died in 1966 in Blackpool and all contact with her family was lost. I have her birth cerfificate. Her mother is listed as Mary Catherine Edwards and father as Joseph Harold Bryan. The address of my mothers birth in 1931 and that of her parents was 5 Deansburn Rd Tuebrook Liverpool.
As events are after 1911 I do not have a clue in which direction to go. Would electoral registers help? If so where could I possibly access them?

Interesting ..... earlier than expected, and one of 3 J H Bryans born 1888 ! Two were in Leicestershire & Staffs, so this West Derby District seemed more relevant ?

Anyways, best to search for a marriage twixt Bryan & Edwards working back from 1931 .... I'll see if there are more Bryan births with Edwards as Mums Maiden name - might help to pin down a likely marriage year ...

Dont rely on that 1888 birth - get that marriage cert which may reveal age as well as Fathers name to help ID him in the census.
You can get it online:-
http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/
using the info shown above - Name, District, Volume and Page numbers.
Just put the male name - best to keep it short and sweet in case of errors in spelling in the original, which might stop a Cert being issued

Looking at the 1911 census index there are a number of Joseph Bryans who could be your grandfather.
If you buy the marriage certificate it will give you Joseph's age and his father's name as well as Mary's father's details. That will really get your search going along the right lines

I recieved the marriage certificate today. This should set me on my search. It turns ourt I had my GM's DOB wrong. She was younger than I thought. Both are listed as spinster and batchelor respectively however GF was 33 and GM was only 18. Thanks for all the help I'm off to do some searching!
