Hi

I am trying to discover any info about Hannah Cotterell b c 1800 - 1808 and William Green b c 1797.

Both state they were b in Ledbury on the 1851 [HO 107/1975 page 7] & 1871 [RG 10/2682 page 32] censuses.

Hannah [mother] seems to have died in 1873.

1881 Census A William Green Widower is in the Union Workhouse in Ledbury. He was b Hereford City [RG 11 /2582 page 27]

William says he was a widower by the time he married Hannah in 1856 but there are no parents named on their wedding certificate.

Mind you, by then there were three children that I know of

Eleanor [Elinor] Cotterell b c 1840 Ledbury but it doesn't state she is dau so maybe Hannah was married previously.
Hannah Cotterell my gggrandmother Dau b 1845 b Ledbury
William Green Cotterell Son 1843 b Ledbury

on the 1851 Census Mother Hannah is listed as 'kept mistress' but I can't find them in 1861.

I have yet to order Hannah 1845's birth cert to see whether William Green is the father as I suspect.

Any ideas where to go next please?

Thank you very much for the info. I'm off to look now. I did go to Ledbury back in the 1980's when my grandfather was still alive [died aged 96 so a wealth of stories about family]. Young Hannah was his grandmother.  I found out a lot about his paternal side but followed the male line mostly.
